After Estonia regained independence, changes did not only occur on a national level but also in Tallinn Secondary School of Science. Many forbidden traditions were restored and many new were established.
In 1999 the school’s name was changed to Tallinn Secondary School of Science. In the spring of the same year the marble plaque was reinstalled in the assembly hall. The official opening of the new Reaali Poiss (‘Boy of the Science School’) sculpture took place in 1993. The symbol IIK on the graduation badge was changed into the symbol R in 1990 and in 2001 the design of the badge was restored to what it had been before the Second World War.
As a new tradition, since 1995 seniors haze the freshmen. In 2000 another tradition was born—an annual trip to theatre with the entire gymnasium. The school’s birthday on September 29 is also an important event.
As always in the school’s history, besides active studying, students find time and desire to take part in sports and creative activities. And they gain both national and international recognition for their accomplishments.
